LADS on tour!? An archaeologist’s look at the public image of Vikings through the lens of queer theory.

Think of a Viking and you instantly see an image in your mind’s eye. Is it a huge sword-swinging man with bushy beard and horn of ale? A whirlwind tour of queer theory, Vikings, Victorians, metal music, pop culture and even a steamy Mills & Boon cover… This talk will look at pop culture and academic illustrations since our British fascination with all things Viking began to discuss how our obsession with ‘manly’ Vikings affects how we see past societies. Discover how archaeologists think about the power of images and their implications to create graphics for books or interpretation panels that you see at historic sites.
